"Don’t let Murphy taint your view of the world, no matter how convincing or truthful he may sound." Barry Nicolaou
Master Secret: Overcoming Murphy's Law
Strategy: Gratitude, patience and understanding of current circuimstances
There are groups of people out there who’ve discovered their true purpose; these people have discovered what they really want to do with their lives and are actually living it every day. Let me tell you: It's not an exclusive club with strict entry rules. Anyone can join, provided we can beat Murphy at his own game. The best way to do that is to not play. The premise of Murphy’s law, along with other self-defeating notions (such as 'reasons why we can’t make it'), is of central focus in this book. When we can build a strategy against Murphy’s Law, we can accomplish anything we set our minds to.
If this is the only message you take away from this book, you'll be successful.
About Success and Murphy's Law:
In most cases, successful people are the kind everyone looks up to. Spectators often use words “lucky” and “fortunate” to describe them. Yet, if we look closer at people who are doing what they love, they’ve only succeeded because they’ve developed a strategy to deal with frequent visits from Murphy. Murphy's Law states: If anything can go wrong, then it will go wrong. People enjoy the automobile analogy that we use in our seminars to illustrate this point. Like an automatic car, we have three main modes of operation: Forward, Neutral and Reverse. The same can be said about our thoughts. We either feel happy and passionate toward our lives (Forward), or neither happy nor sad (Neutral), or we feel down, negative or depressed (Reverse). It is our job to know that Murphy constantly wrenches our gear stick back into Reverse. Most people live their lives between Reverse and Neutral.
Successful people have developed a strategy to place the car into Forward for longer, and in order to tip the odds in their favour, some have even decided to purchase a manual car that has six forward gears. We must encourage ourselves to have a manual mindset when it comes to chasing our vision. To take this analogy further, what are six areas you can think of that can put you back into Forward momentum? What do we have at our disposal to use in terms of memories, people, sayings, mantras, testimonials or feelings, which can bring us back to an “it's possible" mindset?
When Murphy rings the doorbell, do not give him an opportunity to stay, because otherwise, he’ll make himself at home, and sometimes for years. When someone like Murphy becomes a part of us for years, he starts to form part of our consciousness, and shapes our thoughts, decisions and actions. You can see from this example how each of us can very easily create any world we want for ourselves.
Understanding how the law of attraction works gives us a strategy to combat Murphy's Law by way of keeping our thoughts constantly elevated. For those who are familiar with a number of the teachings on the Law of Attraction, the below will come as no surprise.
Growing up, I believed the secret to gaining whatever I wanted out of life was to think the exact opposite would occur. Emphasis was placed on the expectation of failure: "Don't expect the best and you'll be happily surprised if you get something better, Barry!"Oh, my goodness! I had adopted an incredibly backward mindset. Can you imagine how often I failed because I honestly believed I would fail? Wasn’t it astonishing that life was giving me exactly what I secretly believed, time and time again? At almost every turn, the results were predictable, from consistently failing business ideas to unfavourable personal situations and continued personal failure. This severely impacted my state of mind, and I had built myself into a belief that successful people had a "leg-up" somehow, or if not, they dealt in questionable business practices. What a joke.
People who perfectly understand and who live and breathe the Law of Attraction, understand that our physical life is a direct reflection of our inner-most thoughts and self-worth. In the 1950s, Earl Nightingale wrote The Strangest Secret In The World. In Earl's words: "A man becomes what he thinks about most". Could there be a truer statement?
The only way to positively increase our self worth in anticipation of Murphy’s Law, is to believe we are capable of achieving more than we think we can. The only way to receive more is to leap for more. Also, the only way to leap for more is to undertake learning for additional knowledge, wade through emotional and financial risk, understand our environment, and not give-up in the struggle for success. Most people will say they'll believe it when they see it. What we need to do is believe it first, and only then we're able to see it. Olympic champions are a testament to this notion. They train for years and they imagine the Gold medal in sight before they succeed.
On the basis of new, conscious and determined choices you are now about to make, below are three easy steps to immediately shift your emotional vibration to give Murphy a nice, warm serving of your new positive mindset.
1. Stop being obsessed with a security-based mindset.
Life is not secure, we all die, so why keep seeking security within a life that will always be insecure? Do your homework, budgets and risk analysis, but still take the leap for the vision."Oh, but Barry, we're playing it safe for the kids." The kids can buy four Ferraris or divorce their future partner and lose it all, so don't worry about what you leave for your kids. Instead, be more concerned about what you leave in your kids.
2. Embrace a media-free diet.
We cannot live a positive, dream-enriched life when we're being bombarded 24/7 with various types of fear and negative programming from media networks. Spreading fear in the name of righteousness has been a tactic used for time immemorial. Let's dispose of it, once and for all. Discern what and who's important to you and live there.
3. Consider keeping or culling the five most influential people in your life immediately.
Get closer to those who can reassure and positively influence you to reach for your vision. Mentors are great at this; look for someone who is living the life you want to live and deeply observe or listen to how they did it. More than anything, you'll hear about the struggle. Embrace the wisdom in their struggle and their strategy for knock-backs and low moments.
If we can make a conscious choice to embrace these three steps in our everyday thinking, we will see changes occur right before our eyes. Some people will love you for making the change, while others will think you're somewhat strange. Who cares? You shouldn't. Let them think whatever they want; this isn't about them. It's about you and furthering your personal growth to live a life you want for you and your family in the unknown time we’ve been given. Always embrace the courage to stretch for what you want. We're not here for a long time, but we are here for just enough time to shine our creative light to the world. And after all, isn't that the whole point of experiencing life and being alive? To grow and embrace the beauty of the struggle to the light...?
